Objective
Reconcile the original EI-1.5 REWRITE disposition against the production work already completed in EI-3.4, and determine whether any item still requires a mandatory substantive rewrite.
Finding
There is no unresolved EI-1.5 REWRITE queue.
EI-3.4 already resolved all 15 REWRITE classifications:
- 7 historical posts were restored or rewritten as production Writing.
- 8 legacy journalism/media pages were consolidated into one canonical Journalism & Media Portfolio.
- EI-3.4 explicitly closed with
0 unresolved REWRITE items.
EI-5 must therefore not reopen the old 15-item queue by default. Further work is a second editorial pass based on present quality, significance, evidence, and reader value — not completion of an unfinished migration obligation.

The portfolio’s prose is sufficient as a structural historical record. Its most meaningful next improvement is evidence-rich presentation: selectively restoring verified covers, page designs, PDFs, or video stills from archival masters when they improve reader understanding. That is portfolio enrichment/media curation, not completion of an unresolved rewrite.
Editorial-development priorities
EI-5 should use the following priority queue instead of the obsolete 15-item rewrite queue.
Priority 1 — flagship editorial review
- A programmer, again — strongest bridge among early computing, journalism, retraining, programming, and teaching; review as a possible signature autobiographical technology essay.
- The Age of Marvels — strong computing-history premise and surviving period artifact; review whether additional identification/context for the magazine image materially strengthens it.
- Twenty-thirteen — concise origin story for curiosity and exploratory computing; review for flagship placement, not expansion for its own sake.
- Why IT support is hated — strong evergreen professional anecdote; review Featured importance and contextual links to current technology/teaching writing.
Priority 2 — contextual and collection enrichment
- Journalism & Media Portfolio — prioritize verified visual/media evidence and concise project metadata over more prose.
- The Intercom — preserve brevity; improve only contextual linking/discoverability.
- Random videos from the 1980s — preserve as secondary historical evidence; verify embeds and contextual links.
Priority 3 — artifact recovery only
- Narcopapa (2005) — prose is already adequate. If the original SWF can be safely rendered to a modern production format, add the rendering while keeping the obsolete Flash file out of the production dependency chain.
What EI-5 should not do
- Do not rewrite all seven historical essays again merely because EI-1 once labeled them REWRITE.
- Do not inflate concise pieces to make them appear more substantial.
- Do not reconstruct the eight old portfolio pages as separate destinations.
- Do not promote every retained item to Featured.
- Do not restore archival media unless it materially improves an approved production item and passes EI-2 media governance.
- Do not revisit DELETE/privacy material.
Revised EI-5 execution model
The evidence changes the proposed series slightly:
- EI-5.1 — Rewrite Queue Reconciliation — complete; confirms no unresolved mandatory rewrites.
- EI-5.2 — Flagship Editorial Review — evaluate and, only where justified, strengthen the four Priority-1 pieces.
- EI-5.3 — Portfolio & Secondary Enrichment — improve the portfolio and secondary historical items through verified context/media rather than indiscriminate rewriting.
- EI-5.4 — Contextual Linking — create deliberate relationships among historical Writing, current Writing, PTIR, History, and the portfolio.
- EI-5.5 — Featured Corpus Curation — reassess Featured membership and importance after editorial review.
- EI-5.6 — Historical Framing & Provenance — standardize visible historical/revision framing without erasing original dates.
- EI-5.7 — Editorial Validation & Closeout — reader-level review, privacy validation, and series closeout.
Closeout
EI-5.1 prevents duplicate editorial work by recognizing EI-3.4 as authoritative. The next sprint is a quality review of a small flagship set, not a second migration pass over all 15 original REWRITE records.
