Before technology education became the center of my professional work, I worked in newspapers, design, publishing, and multimedia. Older versions of paco.org represented that work as a maze of separate portfolio pages. This page consolidates the material that remains useful as a record of that part of my career.
Newspaper design
My newspaper work included editorial, sports, feature, and entertainment design for publications including Al Día, The Arlington Morning News, The Arlington Star-Telegram, and The Victoria Advocate.
At Al Día, I produced feature pages and editorial/news pages. Those pages were built for print deadlines and for a bilingual daily-newspaper environment.
A larger set of publication PDFs with generic archive filenames still requires item-level identification before public use. Unmatched files are not turned into a generic gallery simply because they survive.
Newsletters and professional communications
At THERAPY 2000, I produced several recurring newsletters. Four served the company’s branches as internal communications. I also produced Express, an external publication whose audience and format evolved as the organization grew.
One Express project covered VitalStim therapy and combined print and multimedia work. The surviving expressvitalstim.html presentation envelope is unusually useful provenance evidence: it explicitly identifies two finished newsletter-page images, express-1.jpg and express-2.jpg, and three YouTube case-video embeds. Those exact image files have not yet been positively recovered from the approved archive, so the wrapper is preserved as a presentation envelope rather than used to manufacture replacement pages.
Multimedia and video
The portfolio also included web and multimedia production, including editorial and marketing video. That work belongs to the same professional history as the print material: communicating information across whatever medium the project required.
Where an original or positively matched master survives, it should remain unchanged in archival storage and any browser-ready copy should be documented as a derivative. Where only an old wrapper, project file, or external embed survives, that evidence is recorded without manufacturing a replacement master.
Legacy portfolio consolidation
Seven retained WordPress portfolio pages are now represented by this single curated hub rather than restored as separate legacy pages:

/video-at-al-dia/) — represented by the multimedia/video record; only positively identified surviving media may be added later.
Those historical routes redirect here so old links retain continuity without recreating the old information architecture.
Preservation status
This portfolio distinguishes among four levels of evidence:
- Verified master/source — an identifiable PDF, scan, source file, or other artifact that can be matched to the portfolio entry.
- Finished portfolio output — a positively identified completed publication artifact suitable for a neutral browser derivative under the EI-8 rendering standard.
- Presentation/project envelope — surviving HTML, project structure, or other evidence showing how work was presented or assembled, without claiming that the underlying media master survives.
- Unresolved archival item — a surviving file whose title or context is not specific enough for production use.
That distinction is intentional. The goal is to preserve professional history without turning every old file into public content or overstating what the surviving archive proves.
About this archive
This is a curated historical portfolio, not a reconstruction of every old portfolio page. The earlier pages — My work, News Design, Features Design, Editorial Pages, Express VitalStim, Multimedia, and Editorial/Marketing video — are represented here as one coherent record.
Original publication dates, surviving source files, and archival media remain part of the preservation record. Production copies of individual media are restored only when they materially improve this portfolio, can be verified against the archival masters, and pass the publication-derivative standard.
