EI-8.6 — Portfolio Master Delivery & Selective Publication Derivatives

Date: 2026-08-09 Status: COMPLETE

Scope

Evaluate the verified lavida.pdf archival holding for public/browser delivery while preserving Google Drive as the authoritative archival master. Continue the RGC video provenance check only where exact evidence exists; do not infer masters from project envelopes.

lavida.pdf inspection

Authoritative Drive file: 1yTOSSEW_bx5QJMRv9vZm7wmbdS_1MhQG

Observed properties from the downloaded archival object:

  • PDF 1.3
  • 12 pages
  • US Letter page geometry
  • 85,858 bytes
  • PDF creation timestamp: 2005-12-27
  • Producer: Mac OS X 10.3.3 Quartz PDFContext
  • Not encrypted
  • Not tagged

Text extraction shows production/layout marks rather than a clean reader-oriented publication. The first page includes layout metadata such as 123005 FRI LAVIDA, process-color markings, measurement guides, and AD: 0% EDIT: 100.0%.

Decision

Do not publish lavida.pdf directly and do not manufacture a derivative in this sprint.

The file is valuable as an archival master/source because it is positively identifiable and preserves production evidence. It is not yet a suitable browser-facing portfolio artifact: its surviving form is a production/layout PDF, and publishing it unchanged would expose prepress structure rather than present the work cleanly.

A browser derivative would require an explicit transformation policy (cropping/normalization, page selection, image rendering, accessibility treatment, and provenance labeling). Creating that transformation before defining those rules would blur the distinction established in EI-8.5 between archival masters and publication derivatives.

Google Drive therefore remains the archival authority. No binary copy is added to the paco.org repository in EI-8.6.

RGC video envelope

EI-8.5 established that the archive contains an RGC folder and RGC.prproj project structure but no positively matched local camera masters or encoded files for the three YouTube embeds on Random videos from the 1980s.

EI-8.6 preserves that classification. The project envelope is provenance evidence, not a substitute master. The YouTube clips remain EXTERNAL-DERIVATIVE until an exact local source/output can be matched.

Result

EI-8.6 closes without public media publication. This is an affirmative preservation decision, not a failed recovery: the archival master has been verified, inspected, and deliberately withheld from production because the surviving object is not yet a reader-ready representation.

Next sprint

EI-8.7 — Publication Derivative Standard & Portfolio Rendering Policy

Define the rules required before archival print/media masters can become public derivatives: transformation boundaries, naming, provenance metadata, accessibility, page/image selection, repository placement, and master/derivative linkage. Apply the standard to lavida.pdf only after the policy is explicit.
